A Difficult But Necessary New Beginning
Ms. M has worked for Chanje Movement for over 10 years. She is the Chanje program and outreach coordinator and has a compassionate heart and generous spirit. She moved to northern Haiti a little over a year ago. This move was incredibly hard for her, as it is for many. Her whole life, her business, and her family had all been in central Haiti. But so much of her life and community had been destroyed by gangs that she decided to start fresh with Chanje Movement in the north. And while the move was ultimately a good thing for her and her kids, it has also come with significant challenges.
Life Without Power
One of those challenges was lack of electricity in her home. In northern Haiti, there is no electrical infrastructure. The only way to get power is to have a solar power system installed in your home. We installed such a system at Chanje Lakay, but were unable to purchase one for Ms. M when she moved. She made do by charging her devices at Chanje Lakay and using battery operated lights. But as you can imagine, the lack of power made life even more complicated for her and her three daughters. She also has several other family members who have migrated to the north living with her. And everyone needs power!
During the December trip, Rick was able to figure out the logistics of installing a solar power system in Ms. M’s home and get a quote. He put out a special fundraising call and some incredibly generous donors stepped up and covered the cost of the entire system. Ms. M’s home is now fully equipped with solar panels and back up batteries. She and her family can charge devices, turn on lights, and live more comfortably and efficiently in their home. Knowing Ms. M, she will use this blessing to bless others as well.
Be the Light for the Next Special Need
Special needs like this pop up all the time in Haiti and there is not money in the annual budget to cover these needs. If you’d like to make a special donation for special needs, please click the link below. Thank you for your generosity!
