As 2025 comes to a close, we wanted to share some of what’s been happening at Chanje Movement and what we’re praying for in the year ahead.

Dr. L recently reflected on the past year and some moments worth celebrating. The 2024 and 2025 Christmas parties were highlights. The Christmas party is organized primarily by the kids at Chanje Lakay. They decorate, sing, dance, and put on skits. It’s a time for them to express themselves and they often share their love for Dave, Rick and the Chanje Movement. And of course, Ms. M always cooks a delicious feast. It is a special time of bonding.

Another highlight was the summer soccer game. During the June trip, we had a soccer game that brought out some friendly competition between Dave and Dr. L. Dave was the clear MVP, though he’d probably deny it. The kids at Chanje Lakay played hard, as they always do, and there were even some kids from the neighborhood that joined.

The last highlight is the academic success of the kids at Chanje Lakay. All of them passed their grade at the end of the year. In past years, some students have struggled because school closures disrupted their learning. But now they are all thriving and there are some that are exceeding expectations. Three of our students earned high marks in chemistry. Two of them received scores of 394/400 and one received 400/400. These scores are incredible. Watching these kids thrive in school as they prepare for a successful future reminds us why we do this work.

Hope for 2026

As we look ahead, one of our biggest prayers is to expand medical services in the community. We want to host more pop-up clinics with Haitian and American doctors and nurses helping people with basic medical care. We also want to keep Dr. L’s trauma and first aid kit full stocked so that he can help patients in the community all year round.

It is Dr. L’s dream to one day open a permanent clinic.  With key hospitals in Haiti shut down, accessible medical care has become critical. There is desperate need for a clinic close to Chanje Lakay.

Right now, community members have to travel 45 minutes for emergency care. We saw this firsthand when Rick got injured on the December trip. He and Dr. L had to travel quite a ways to get to a clinic with an x-ray machine and when they got there, they learned the machine’s display wasn’t functioning. A medical clinic closer to our community, with plenty of supplies and working machinery, would mean immediate access to care when people need it most. We are hoping to make this dream a reality in the next few years.

You Make This Possible

Our goals for 2026 are achievable with your continued support. Your donations don’t just keep current programs running; they also help us grow and meet needs we couldn’t address otherwise.

Thank you for being part of the Chanje Movement. We’ll keep you updated as we work toward this goal in 2026.
