While in Haiti last spring, Dave was walking through a village in northern Haiti. A young women named Josefina approached him and asked what he was doing. Josefina is a leader in her community, always looking out for her family and neighbors. It’s unusual for a white man to be walking the neighborhood streets, so naturally, she was curious.
Dave explained that he worked with an organization that helps Haitians change their lives and change their communities. Josefina asked if he could help her get food for her family.
If you’ve been a friend of Chanje for a long time, you know that we firmly believe Haitians are the heroes and they are front and center of the work done in Haiti. So, Dave introduced Josefina to Dr L, the Director of the Haitian Board and Chanje Lakay. After speaking with her, Dr L saw an opportunity to encourage and empower her as a community leader. He purchased food not just for her family but for her neighborhood and then put her in charge of distribution. And that was the first Chanje Movement food outreach in northern Haiti!
We are so thankful that God is already opening doors and paving way for community relationships in our new home!
